Is The Market For Children's Animation Oversaturated?
https://deadline.com/2018/10/dreamworks-animation-tv-to-bow-three-new-kids-and-family-series-on-netflix-1202482528/I found this article on Deadline about DreamWorks animation producing three new animated series for Netflix. One of the shows is inspired by a children’s book written by Tony Hale called Archibald’s Next Big Thing which Hale is also producing himself. The other series are Gabby’s Dollhouse from the producer of Blue’s Clues, and Rhyme Time Town about the adventures of Daisy the Puppy and Cole the Kitten.
These shows are targeted toward the children/family market and are already in active development. This market has become even more saturated with the rise of streaming platforms. Since 2013, DreamWorks animation and Netflix have already released 16 original series. Do you feel that there these shows will end up cannibalising each other since most animated series tend to follow similar themes/storylines/aesthetics? Or can these shows find their audience among a competitive market place?
