Bratz: Rock Angelz is the movie I didn't know I needed
This weekend, I watched the hit 2005 animated movie Bratz: Rock Angelz. This movie was one of the first Bratz films in CGI, and let me tell you- the plot is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The girls start a fashion magazine and use stolen passes to get into hot London punk clubs, but when they lose their passes they decide that the only way to get into the gig is to become a rock band? This movie can be considered capitalist propaganda- the Bratz shop in order to destress about their problems, and it's an implemental part of their lives. They don't have jobs either- Jade has an internship, but only for three hours until she is fired. ReplyDeleteFor this week I just want to recommend an animated show that Im a huge fan of, Big Mouth. Its a Netflix original and it lead by the comedic duo of Nick Kroll and John Mulaney. The show is centered around two middle school boys and how Andrew ( John Mulaney ) hits puberty earlier on than Nick (Nick Kroll) and how that begins to change their relationship.
ReplyDeleteThe show in general takes a very crude approach when tackling puberty. It doesn't really hold back in the language or in the animation. Definitely not a cartoon for kids. But like we discussed in class, since the show is animated, its able to tackle sexuality in young pubescent kids in a way that live action couldn't. By being animation, it has the freedom to tackle puberty in a smart, satirical, imaginative, and even a little disturbing ways that highlight a trouble time in young teens life.
The show is an acquire taste, so if you are not into it in the first five minutes, I recommend you stop watching it, its not for everyone. But if you do stick around, you are in for more than just an entertaining ride.
cool, I'll check it out. maybe it will give me some tools for raising my almost teenager :)
