Animation & Realism
I'd like to discuss how do we define and identify animation, and the degree to which the artist/film moves away from realism. The level of abstraction plays a huge role in animation, there's something instinctual and freeing in animation-- you can play with the boundaries of realism and how much you want to cross over it (from breaking the fourth wall to animating objects to manipulating time/space). It's this constant back and forth of how much you want to abide by the laws of physics versus how much you want to abstract the world of the film.
