Thoughts on Toy Story 4

I've been thinking about all the hype revolving around Toy Story 4 (coming out June 21st next year), and I'd have to say, I'm a little disappointed they made another one.  Toy Story 3 could have been the perfect end to the franchise- Andy grows out of his toys and gives them to a sweet little girl. Good. Done. So sweet. BUT just as we are finally getting over the  emotional turmoil of Toy Story 3, Pixar announces that a 4th one is on its way. I am so nervous that this film is going to be a failure. For example, I love Shrek, but the 3rd and 4th movie just weren't that great in my opinion. It didn't ruin the franchise for me, but I wish they didn't make them since nothing will ever compare with the first 2. I feel like Toy Story 4 is just a huge money grab for the studio. I've never met anyone that disliked Toy Story, so I know there will be a huge turnout at the theater, but I hope the viewers don't leave disappointed. Maybe it's just the pessimist in me, but I really don't have high hopes for Toy Story 4.

  1. As a kid, I was always eager to see sequels like this, being blind to the difference between what was good and bad. Nowadays, that has changed drastically, but I still think there is a chance for a good movie. The conclusion of Toy Story 3 was truly a perfect way to wrap up the trilogy, but I am still excited to see how the plot will thicken in this next adventure. Looking back at films like Monsters University and Finding Dory, I realized that the stories aren't all that good, but the charm of the characters was still present. At the very least, we will be given this, and who the hell wouldn't want to see Woody and Buzz in action one last time?

  2. I think what's important to note here is the time elapsed from 3 to 4: 9 years, almost as much as 2 to 3 (11 years). People had similar reactions of fear for the release of 3, but PIXAR assured its audiences that they wouldn't add to the franchise if they didn't have an idea that wasn't as good or even better than the originals. Don't forget, the creators care for these characters as much as we do, if not more so. John Lasseter even stated that he was against the film until he realized that he couldn't get the concept out of his head and had to bring it to fruition. Plus, Tim and Tom have been very vocal about just how emotional the ending is...they couldn't even look the filmmakers in the face during it! I agree that 3 was pretty much a perfect conclusion, but I suppose Andy's story is over, but the toys have more adventures to share. I am 100% confident that 4 will not let us down.
