Why is anime not as popular in the US?
Whenever I hear talk about anime, this is a question that is always lingering in the back of my mind that I can never find a solid definition for. Why is anime just not as popular in the US than Japan and other countries. When I grew up the only form of anime that I watched was Pokemon, which I feel like every American kid can relate too. Even back then however I wasn't the biggest fan of it. Now that I am more grown up and especially into more films, I see that anime has it's own major "fandom" here in the US, but in Japan it is more of a way of life. It is way more popular there, but why? Part of it I think stems from the fact that most American's don't like films or TV shows unless they are in english, and most anime's are not. After watching Akira I thought it was amazing and made me actually want to look into more anime films, so could another reason be because people don't give anime a chance? What do you guys think?
Honestly after doing last weeks reading, anime seemed so appealing to me, but I still don't understand why I find it "weird." I guess I just need to watch it more.
