Unlike any other form of animation

Anime is unlike any other form of animation, in my opinion at least. In the reading for last Thursday, Anime From Akira to Princess Mononoke, there was a lot of discussion regarding the way that anime is compared to animation from the Western world. Anime is a specifically Japanese art form. It has a clear narrative and a distinct visual aesthetic that acknowledges both traditional Japanese culture, as well as moving forward technologically (pg. 8). Of course, Anime is not something that you can relate to Disney, which is what many tend to do considering Disney is the leader of animation in the Western world.
Personally, I have never been a fan of anime. However, I can appreciate the artistry of it. It has taken over the world and become a popular form of animation in more nations than just Japan. After reading the article, I am definitely more interested in watching anime to see if maybe it is something I would like.

  1. I agree with your opinions about anime. I have watched a few anime shows with friends and was not the biggest fan, however I do strongly appreciate the art is showed. The reading was actually super interesting to me as well and made me appreciate it more because it kind of made me see anime more as an art form that is way different then animation from the Western world. I agree with you that I might give it more of a shot the next time I watch an anime film!
