Princess Mononoke May Have Changed My Views On Anime
In my blog post from last week I talked about how I have never been a fan of anime. I appreciate the artistry, but it was never something that I would really watch on my own. Princess Mononoke definitely made me think differently about anime. The movie was without a doubt long, and I have a hard time paying attention for that length of time, so I did start to drift about an hour and 45 minutes into the film. However, I did my best to pay attention. Not because of the fact that I had to because I was in class, but because of the fact that I was really interested.
The way that the two main characters were treated was very interesting and different. Depending on the animation style, it can be difficult to figure out how old the characters really are. The way that Ashitaka was portrayed at the beginning of the film and even throughout made it seem as though he was an adult. However, there were multiple lines in the script that said he was very young. This idea of the child hero and the way that they are portrayed is something that really pulled me into the film, considering the way that it was approached was so different from what I am used to seeing.

Same with me! Watching both princess mononoke and akira really opened my eyes to the great appeal of anime. Im excited to watch more.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree. These past few classes have made me enjoy anime much more than I used to or thought I would.
