Pete's Dragon (1977) and the 'Roger Rabbit Effect'
I was watching the original Pete's Dragon the other day (sidenote, the remake is waaaaaay better), and I couldn't help but think about the way the film uses a hybrid of live-action and animation to more along its narrative. I guess the most famous example of this type of filmmaking is Robert Zemeckis' Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Personally I find these kinds of films to be super entertaining, especially when it's traditional animation as opposed to CGI. So I wanted to pose this question: what's the general consensus here about live-action animated films, and what are some other notable examples you can think of besides Roger Rabbit?
Theres a film called Cool World starring Brad Pitt that has this same kind of hybrid style, with 2D animation and live action being combined. I've never seen it so I can't speak to how good the movie actually is but I've seen the poster and some stills so I know it has this same style. Its streaming on hoopla (which is free w library card) if you want to look into watching it.
