"No Money Means No Animation!" | Chowder
In my humble opinion, the funniest animated scene in history is this scene from Chowder where they stop the episode because they have "nothing left of the budget" to finish the episode and they resort to live-action to recreate the rest of the episode until they can afford to animate it. It's creative and a little out of a Cartoon Network show's element. For some reason, I find breaking the fourth wall to be very meta in animation- in live action, it can get really cliche for me when not done right. But this scene doesn't for some reason. I think it's really well done, and I would like to see more animated shows try to step out of their element. Rest In Peace, Chowder. Boy, were you weird.
Awesome scene. In a weird way this reminded me of Waltz With Bashir when they cut out of it. Obviously the two films have very different messages, meanings, and feelings associated while using this cut to live action technique. However, both movies when cutting out of the animation implement a jarring/unsettled feeling. While the Chowder bit is mean to be, and is, funny, this switching worlds/behind the curtain glimpse is still unsettling due to it's instant change with no warning.
