Welcome to Marwen

This past break I saw A Star is Born (great film btw highly reccomend) and during the trailers, a super interest preview showed titled “Welcome to Marwen” which featured Steve Carrell. This film is a mix of what seems to be 3D animation mixed with live action, but it also seems as if it is part of puppet animation because the 3D animated parts are all the protagonist’s doll figures coming to life. I immediately thought about our animation class when I saw this trailer and I really would like to know how they filmed it. I am so excited when more information gets released about it because the mix of live action and animation is done so brilliantly that it’s confusing to think about how it was created!

I personally think that the actors wore motion detector suits like in avatar and they computer generated them to be more animated, but I could be completely wrong. I highly suggest looking at the trailer because it is so interesting and beautifuly shot. I would love to know what you guys think about it.

    This is a really cool concept. I love how meta the film seems. It's always interesting when movies do a combination of half animated and half live action like this.

This weekend, I watched the hit 2005 animated movie Bratz: Rock Angelz. This movie was one of the first Bratz films in CGI, and let me tell you- the plot is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The New Spider Man!

Yesterday I saw spiderman with some buddies and we all walked out absolutely giddy! This animation is the best animation to hit the theaters in 2018. Period. I remember watching it and as I was watching it thinking, "thank god I already finished all my reviews because I don't think I can put into words how good this movie is in just a page". The style of this animation is something you have never seen before from Hollywood. It is absolutely stunning. It follows traditions of comic book artists with bright colors, dark lines on the face, and a pop art texture overlayed on top of everything. My breath was taken away during the final fight scene: it was gorgeous , emotional, and the stakes were made clear in every shot.
