M. J. Winkler
Margaret Winkler is often left uncredited in the story of Felix the Cat's success. Starting as a secretary to Harry Warner, one of the Warner bros, she left to start her own production company. Going by the name M.J. Winkler so she would be taken seriously as a woman in animation at the time, she began producing many films. She then signed with Pat Sullivan and began producing Felix the Cat cartoons in 1922. She then pushed to have these and other cartoons play before feature length films at the movies. This was the first instance of this and became an expected thing. People knew Felix and they would look forward to seeing new antics of his play before the movies. This was really the beginning of people thinking of animation as something real and worthwhile and set everything in motion.
Winkler also helped Walt Disney on many of his projects and even trained him in some aspects of animation.
In summation we can thank Margaret Winkler for animation being what it is today and having this class and having to blog twice a week.
