Discussion of Films from class (10/9)
Multiple films stood out to me during class today that I had to address. Out of all of them, I have an (probably) unpopular opinion as to which one was my favorite. The coca cola stop-motion film stuck in my mind because of the 90's pop-punk vibe it gave off. As a teenager still in her angsty phase, I liked the throw back. I started to connect it to being uncanny because it is clear that the person in the film is real, yet his movements were uncanny to me. They were jerky and harsh. It honestly was almost uncomfortable to watch. Our professor defined it as the pixilation technique. It was rough and staggered but overall, the animators successfully got their point across. I also enjoyed the PES pixilation film, that used the human as the skateboard. I enjoyed this film a lot because it was clean and classic. We discussed how the image was so high quality that it could've been stop motion. To me, it looks more like a frame grab technique because it was so clean, without any mistakes.
Something else that stood out to me in class was the fact that we discussed time lapse as animation. Today's film about time lapse and animation shifted my definition of animation and opinion on if time lapse is animation or not. The "ghosted" imaged of the human switched places with the actual animation to make the human seem like the unrealistic part. The time-lapse of the creation of the animation, to me, was animation in itself because we could see the objects come to life. Not to mention the scale of which animation was produced. There was monster literally bigger than life in the film, coming TO life!
