Character Appearances
Has anyone ever seen those pictures on Instagram where artist turn animated characters into live action characters? I'm talking about when the artists literally draw every single feature of the animated figure in the form of a live action figure. Something like this:
It's creepy right? My question is, why do some characters work so well in animation, but if you were to turn them into real life characters it would just be flat out creepy. I guess it's understandable for something like The Simpsons, I mean the characters were not drawn to look like actual people. But still, if you were to take a Disney Princess (that was meant to be drawn like an actual human being) and turn it into a real person there is still going to be something about it that is unsettling, for example, the big eyes and the extremely slim body.
So my question is why do these exaggerated features work so well in animation?

That is an interesting question! I think we all have developed a sort of "vision" of animated characters that they must be so exaggerated to look so called "normal." That being said, once we transfer that to live action, we are so disturbed because it isn't "normal" to us! I think of the Beauty and the Beast remake, where you saw the clock and candelabra go from cartoon to live action, and it made me super uncomfortable, because we were so used to seeing the exaggerated animated features. I feel as if it is just implanted in our brains that animated characters need to have an exaggerated look.
