Animation for Adults
It frustrates me that animation is seen as "childish". I can honestly say that movies that have more artist value and beauty tend to be animated films, but why does the average moviegoer flock to shitty, live action movies that seem to be constantly cranked out. If you think back to 2015, one of the most popular movies that came out that year was Fifty Shades of Grey (rated R). That movie made more than half a billion dollars at the box office. With that turn out you would think it was a ground breaking, beautifully artistic movie. You'd be wrong. Most critics said the movie was dull, riddled with bad acting, and just unsatisfying to watch. It ended up with a score of 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, and even with the bad reviews people still went to see it. In the same year, the animated movie Anomalisa (also rated R) came out. This movie only made 5 million dollars in the box office, but received crazy good reviews and received 92% on Rotten Tomatoes. It was artistically well done and brought up the realities of life in a thought proving way. However, Anomalisa did have a little success for adult animated films as it was the first R rated animated movie to win an Academy award for Best Animated Feature, shining some light on adult animation.
In conclusion, the stats are there; the animated movie, Animalisa, was rated better than Fifty Shades of Grey, yet more people flocked to a shitty live action movie. I feel like adults don't give animated movies meant for adults a chance. I'm not saying that every live action film is bad, but I am saying that I think there are just as many good animated films as there are live action.

I think this is an interesting topic to bring up because there does seem to be some disconnect between adults and animated films. I'm not sure if this is purely due to the classic Disney films that our parents watched with us growing up and how adults may associate animation with childhood, or if drawing and other forms of animation are simply seen as being unrealistic and therefore not taken seriously. I think as we grow older, we become less interested in what we loved as children and we desire things that are more based in what we experience in our daily lives, such as real people. This is just a theory though, and hopefully if someone loves film then animation will always be an interest. But I think some adults don't see animation as being part of the "real" world and then we get what happens with Fifty Shades of Grey making more money at the box office than Anomalisa.
