Solar Walk Review
I watched the animated short, “Solar Walk”. A unique short that manipulates not just classic 2D animation but 3D as well as more experimental styles of 2D. The story of “Solar Walk” confuses me, though it may be due to my lack of sleep, I still enjoyed the film. Its use of pastel colors combined with bright portions brought the screen to life. The sequence in the earlier part of the film involving ‘light speed’, demonstrated a smooth transition from 2D to 2D drawings with 3D appearance, and then finally, 3D animation. Also, this sequence used smoother motion and very bright colors. A nice uplifting moment that contrasted nicely with the earlier more static scenes.
When I began watching “Solar Walk”, I immediately noticed its focus on unique sound design. Although the objects onscreen were mechanical, I was hearing squishing sounds that gave these visuals a new feel. I then also noticed the lower frame rate when it came to movement. The characters and objects moved and jumped rougher than one would expect for animated films nowadays. However, I enjoyed this style as it gave me more time to appreciate the artistry in each frame of the short. I believe this is very important for a film of this high quality.
