Maybe its not just the animation

I recently had the chance to play some old Playstation 2 games. One of which was "Sly Cooper and the Thieves Racoonus". Made by the now huge studio, Sucker Punch. Sly Cooper doesn't have the most dazzling visuals or convincing character animations. The budget was so small, that the creators used the same animations over and over, which eventually becomes quite noticeable. However, this game is fantastic. It drew me in. The outdated graphics and gameplay didn't distract me from the story and characters. The story is all about setting things straight and getting revenge for the murder of your father. With all the characters being animals it makes for a more engaging experience. Plus, the story has depth that draws in the player, there are characters that remain mysterious but give us enough that we're interested. And interested people were. Two more games came out of this low budget masterpiece, and each one maintained the same cheesy dialogue and cheap animations. Yet! They all were engaging just because of the relatable characters and dazzling story.
