The Cult or the Network

The cult of the individual is the ideology pushed by all superhero movies. It offers the message that an individual is strong enough to overcome any obstacle alone and that sheer willpower and determination can get you anywhere you need to go.
This runs very counter to the ideas in Princess Monoke brought up by Miyazaki. His movies showed that an individual is only as strong as their community and social network of friends and family. It represents the idea that it is ok to rely on other people for help in times of need and that that in fact will make you stronger.
I think these points are so drastically different and both have strong impacts on people’s perception of the world. However, I think the first way of thinking can be dangerous to people and their communities.

Do people agree or do people see the superhero movies as empowering and positive?
