Sexuality in Anime

This week, when considering anime and how it fits into traditional animation I was thinking about why the medium is so sexualized.  I think that this often creepy method of sexualization that is so prevalent in anime is part of why it can be considered more or less taboo in some settings in the United States.  It is interesting how in many different shows and films, anime uses similar almost perverted tones when considering sexuality and doesn't nearly shy away from the topic.  In traditional, widespread animation in the United States, I have observed that sexuality is often dealt with in a very delicate way almost as if filmmakers were trying to not offend anyone.  Of course, this is not always the case but by contrast in the way that anime utilizes sexuality, there is a strong difference as opposed to American animation.  I think that this aspect of sexuality in anime could even be part of its appeal in Japan, as well as the United States.
