Princess Mononoke, better than expected

I was surprised at how much I liked Princess Mononoke. I was really into the plot and I thought the animation was really riveting and was super vital in telling the story. I think the most important part of this movie was the story rather than the animation. That same point was also stated in our last class discussion and someone said that some earlier anime was more interested in storytelling rather than perfecting the art of anime itself. Don’t get me wrong, this movie was made for animation, it couldn’t have been done live-action or CGI, that would have totally taken away from the feel of the whole thing but I was more engaged with the story rather than the details of each animated scene. But on the other side there were some scenes that totally took my breath away, when the forest god was walking around headless and there was no dialogue was incredible and colorful. Overall I’m really happy that I liked this movie so much and I hope that I can watch more work like this soon.
