Live action changing superheroes
I thought that the question of whether or not superheroes have been changed by realism/live-action was really interesting. I personally think that something does change when these characters/stories get translated into live action. I was never a fan of comics until superhero movies like Iron Man and Captain America started being made - I only started reading them after I saw the movies (which I know is kind of sacrilege, sorry to all you long time readers). I always thought the stories were kind of silly and over the top and couldn't take them seriously, but for some reason I didn't feel that way watching movies about them. I think it probably has something to do with the stories/powers having to be more grounded in reality since there are limits to live action that you just don't really have with comics or animation, where you can draw anything and make it happen. I think the tone also changes as soon as you see a real person on screen and not a perfect drawing. Plus, movies have to hold an audience's attention for two hours straight - you can't just put the book down and read the rest of it later if it starts getting slow. I think ultimately comics and their live action film adaptations have a really interesting give and take relationship.
I know this isn't what your post was originally about, but the give and take relationship made me think about how much comic book movies have gotten back to their roots. Comic book movies recently are starting to take way more than they used to from their source material. With the advancements in special effects as well as the insane budget of Disney, we are now able to see far more from the comics than we were able to in the mid-2000's. For example, in the terrible second Fantastic Four movie with the Silver Surfer, Galactus was a giant space cloud. Back in 2007, seeing the Devourer of worlds represented as a thunder storm sucked, but really, if the audiences saw a giant purple dude in space they would have been totally turned off. However, now, we have gotten to a point where general audiences are going to totally buy seeing Galactus on screen as he looks in the comics, and the special effects will be able to pull him off.
