Lakia's new film

Laika new stop motion animation film has a new trailer! The film is called The Missing Link. And let me tell the film looks great. To begin with the it has a great cast with the likes of Huge Jackman, Zoe Saldana, Timothy Oliphant, Emma Thompson, and Zach Galifinakis. The story deals with discovering a past human species thought to be long extinct and trying to help him discover more of his species to feel more at home. The animation looks nothing short than amazing, but it suffers from looking too clean. We mentioned this earlier in the semester that stop motion animation is beginning to look too clean. The animation does look great but in parts of the trailer the animation look as if it could be 3D animation instead of stop motion. If you didn’t know the film was being produced Laika you might go the whole trailer thinking this was just another DreamWorks or Illumination film. Non the less the film looks great and I’m excited to see it as soon as it comes out next spring.

    I think that regardless of how clean the animation at Laika's become through all the CGI wizardry, there's still this texture to their films that will never fail to endear me. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it other than that there's a tactile element to their works, and judging by this trailer, it's an element that remains at the studio. Plus it helps that they're able to get top notch actors to bring the characters to life. Never hurts to have the treasure that is Timothy Olyphant in the cast.

This weekend, I watched the hit 2005 animated movie Bratz: Rock Angelz. This movie was one of the first Bratz films in CGI, and let me tell you- the plot is ALL OVER THE PLACE. The New Spider Man!

Yesterday I saw spiderman with some buddies and we all walked out absolutely giddy! This animation is the best animation to hit the theaters in 2018. Period. I remember watching it and as I was watching it thinking, "thank god I already finished all my reviews because I don't think I can put into words how good this movie is in just a page". The style of this animation is something you have never seen before from Hollywood. It is absolutely stunning. It follows traditions of comic book artists with bright colors, dark lines on the face, and a pop art texture overlayed on top of everything. My breath was taken away during the final fight scene: it was gorgeous , emotional, and the stakes were made clear in every shot.
