Is The New Lion King Live Action Despite Being Brought To Life Through Animation?

The Lion King teaser trailer dropped yesterday continuing Disney’s trend of remaking their animated classics. Coming off of 2016's The Jungle Book, director John Favreau is at the helm of another photo real animal adventure.

Disney has been sticking to their formula of having the first teaser trailer be shot for shot of the original animated films' teaser. However, this is the first time I felt it didn’t work because the photo real approach doesn’t allow the animals to emote. While baby Simba is adorable, the characters come off as hollow because they’re not “acting”. Granted The Jungle Book turned out great so who knows this could all work out.

Also, I think it is weird how this remake is being classified as “ the live-action Lion King” when in fact it’s just being animated again with updated technology. So this begs the question if animation appears to be live action, can it be considered live action? Or does it actually have to be physically photographed?

  1. They should call it the photorealistic remake instead.

  2. Yeah, everyone is calling it live action and it's really bugging me because it's actually 3D animation so like ???? It's a weird marketing choice
