anime for people who don't necessarily like anime
When I saw Akira on the watch list for this class, knew it seemed familiar but I didn't think I'd ever seen it, then when it was shown in class, I realized it was the movies a bunch of my friends had on their shelves, despite not being into anime. After seeing the film, I still don't 100% understand why so many of my friends own the movie because it's so different from their tastes in movies beyond the fact that it's anime. However, the message of the film is something that is very universal, real, and relatable and I believe that's what draws people to it, even if anime is not their cup of tea.
