uncanny valley and stopmotion

There are many things about stopmotion as an as art form that lend to it being uncanny. The sudden but not quite fluid movements of figures that you know are inanimate and have no business being able to move, whether they be made of some sort of figurine or clay. One of the main things that I found unsettling, about claymation in particular, when I was younger was every once in a while when you could see finger prints appear and disappear in between every little movement. For some reason the idea of something having a definitively human mark on it when it was a blob of clay that was moving on its own made some of the Aardman Animation films difficult for me to watch.
