Claymation: Is it Worth It?
In class when watching some of the behind the scenes style films for claymation I kept wondering if this aesthetic was actually worth the time and effort that goes into it. The process of creating a claymation film in its entirety seems unbelievably strenuous and time-consuming. Even when working with a large team of people all doing something different, the process still takes an incredible amount of dedication to pull off. This makes me wonder if this "claymation aesthetic" or the look that these films create is viable to survive in the feature film length at all. I can see this method being used for short films, but just the sheer amount of resources and time costs needed to create a feature film of this type makes me doubtful that it will be seen much in mainstream film. That being said I hope that this can survive as a long-form medium because I think that when done correctly, these claymation projects create a very unique way of telling stories.
