Awareness
Something that we discussed in class that interested me was the awareness of the audience when watching animation versus other types of film. With animation, there's always this constant awareness of the medium (from clay to felt to insects) and the presence of the animator. This awareness is especially noticeable in "Oh, Willy"-- the felt adds another dimension to the film. It's inherent softness both complement and contradict the narrative. Felt itself offers a new perspective to the audience, it's texture is distinct and noticeable throughout the short, it reflects/absorbs the light differently than clay and adds to both the realism and fantasy of "Oh, Willy".
