Is Time Laps Animation?

Before our previous class last Tuesday, I had never considered time-laps to be an actual form of animation. Since most time-laps videos are live action, I had always just assumed they were exclusively considered live action. However, knowing what I now know about animation, an argument could be made in the case of claiming time-laps videos to be animation. After all, if flip books are animation, why wouldn't these be? If to animate is to bring life to something, what makes time-laps projects any different? Videos such as Pan with Me and The Time You Have (in Jellybeans) are essentially digital flip books, since they're just single images sped up to create the illusion of movement. They're essentially just stop-motion animation, though filmed in a way that isn't exactly traditional. However, like I said, this could easily be argued the other way, and I would love to hear how someone would disprove me on this.
