As we know animations seems to be synonymous with cartoons, and cartoons are generally associated with kids entertainment. For those people that still consider most animations cartoons I urge them to consider the “Adult Swim” portion of animation, including shows like Robot Chicken and South Park. Not only this but even other animated series and feature length films “meant for kids” have been deemed medias that adults can also meaningfully watch. Zootopia, a Disney animated movie, features adult themes and metaphors that a child may not understand. Lots of people also talk about the difference between watching Spongebob as a kid versus as an adult and finally catching on to innuendos they didn’t understand before. If these are all cartoons “made for kids” then why do some adults get just as much out of it?
RDR2, Realistic?
A brand new Rockstar video game that came out over a couple weeks ago has taken the electronic gaming world by storm. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a CGI and animated game that follows the outlaw Arthur Morgan in his doings throughout the wild west in 1899. I personally haven't played this game yet but from what I have seen, it is very detailed in the story and in-game characters. Everything from shooting a person's head off to walking behind a horse and getting kicked can happen. There is a way for each specific player in this game to change the look of the main character Arthur. What has always amazed me is that in Rockstar games if a character is changed in the open world then that character will remain changed in the cutaway scenes, where the player is not in control. This fact remains in Red Dead 2. So, in conclusion, I believe that the game is very realistic. About as realistic as a video game can get.
I appreciated your reference of "children's movies" that have adult-related themes. Although the film can be represented as a movie intended for kids, adults will find themselves enjoying it more than they may have thought they would due to the underlying themes and metaphors. This is an example of when great animation film can be enjoyed by two different types of people. A good film will cater to all audiences.
